Mondays evening stockcar meeting started with a minutes silence for Roland Warburton who has sadly passed away. Roland’s son Danny, raced ministox until a year ago, Roland was always a great help to the parents and kids in the pits when problems occurred with their cars. James Davis said a few words on behalf of everyone before the entire stadium fell silent. Onchan raceway would like to extend their deepest sympathy to the Warburton family.
Proceedings got underway with the 1st Choice Windows Ministox. Jordan Halligan-Bunce couldn’t be caught in race 1 claiming race victory and also the White and Yellow top drivers trophy. Josh Watson, Ted Davis, Harry Watson, Jack Dobson and Connor Bailey-Bridson all raced well but couldn’t catch the leader. Race 2 saw only Connor and Ted complete race distance after Josh and Ted came together on the back straight sending Josh across the grass and re-joining the track in the path of Jack and Jordan. Conner went on to win the one lap shoot out from Ted. Race 3 saw Jordan take his second win of the evening from Jack and Ted. The Onchan Raceway trophies were awarded to Connor Bailey-Bridson, Ted Davis and Jack Dobson. The Ministox Sword of State was awarded to Ted Davis who came out on top over the last 3 meetings with 43 points.
The Mann Construction F2s were out next with Dougie Kinrade coming from the back to take the victory from Paul Fearn, Terry-John Rigaux and Kevin Hooper. Race 2 saw Terry-John get to grips with the car and collect his maiden victory in only his second race meeting, followed by Paul, Dougie and Kevin. Race 3 was won by Dougie. The Onchan Raceway trophies went to Dougie Kinrade, Terry-John Rigaux and Paul Fearn.
The Onchan Raceway production rods were battling it out in their 2nd round of the Gold cup starting from a clutch start. The racing was fast and close from this non-contact class, Robert Hooper made his way to the front to claim race 1 from Leonie Marchbank and Josh French. Race 2 saw Josh take the lead mid race from India Cowin, Josh won followed by Robert and India. Robert took control again in race 3 to win from Josh and Sarah Wass. The Onchan Raceway trophies were awarded to Robert Hooper, Josh French and Leonie Marchbank who also received the Victory Lane ladies award. Going into the final round of the Gold Cup Robert Hooper leads on 35pts from Josh French on 28 and India Cowin on 20.
The A & J Butchers Bangers saw 13 cars out on track for round 2 of the Commissioners cup. Racing was action packed from the drop of the green flag, race 1 had to be stopped on lap 7 to remove stricken cars, Ste Collister won the restarted race from Steven Guest and Ashley Faragher. Race 2 was carnage with cars coming together and spinning all-round the track, Ashley Faragher emerged race winner from Sam Reeder and Spud Collister. Race 3 saw the field reduced to nine starters but they provided just as much action and entertainment, Sam Reeder claimed the victory this time from Ashley and Scott Farthing. The Onchan Raceway trophies were awarded to Ashley Faragher, Sam Reeder and Ste Collister. Going into the final round of the Commissioners cup the points are close at the top with Ashley Faragher leading on 21pts from Ashley Harrison on 18 and Spud Collister on 17.
Racing resumes Monday 24th July at 7:30 which is the start of a busy week, featuring visiting drivers for the F2 Manx open championship and the National Ministox, we are racing Thursday 27th and Saturday 29th both starting at 7:30pm.
