Sundays stockcar meeting was the Mid Season Demolition Derby and was kindly sponsored by Jaks Bar and Steak House.
The Window Wizard Ministox were all hampered by mechanical failures. Race 1 saw Jordan Halligan-Bunce jump the start and collide with Harry Watson resulting in Jordan pulling off onto the infield and sitting the first race out. Just before the drop of the green flag Ben Kelly also pulled off with car issues leaving just 3 cars on track with Josh Watson taking a comfortable win from brother Harry and Pemma Nissanka. Race 2 Halligan-Bunce once again had a bad start this time with starting issues so retired before the start of the race. From the drop of the green flag the Watson brothers and Nissanka had a good battle up to the last lap with Nissanka just clinching the victory as his drive shaft broke when he went over the finish line taking the win from H Watson and J Watson. Race 3 was a change of fortune with Halligan-Bunce getting his car troubles sorted and starting race 3 and 4. Unfortunately Nissanka never made it back out. J Watson dominated the final two races from brother H Watson and Halligan-Bunce. The Jaks Bar trophies were awarded to 1stplace J Watson, 2ndH Watson and 3rdNissanka.
Swift Motors Production Rods only saw 4 cars make it out in race 1 with Danny Quayle and Lauren Miller both being a nonstarter. There was a good 10 lap battle between Mike Craine and Mark Hargreaves for 1stand 2ndwith Georgina Moore and Josh Ffrench battling it out for 3rdand 4th. Race 2 saw the field being joined finally by Quayle and Miller. This time Hargreaves dominated the race taking victory from Craine, Quayle, Moore, Miller and Ffrench. In race 3 it was Craine back in front taking the early lead with Hargreaves not able to find a gap to overtake. A good battle between the other four drivers saw plenty of close action with Quayle holding on for 3rdfollowed by Moore, Ffrench and Miller. The final race was once again marred by mechanical problems for Moore and Miller. Quayle led the race from start to finish followed by Craine and Ffrench. The Jaks Bar trophies were awarded to 1stCraine 2ndHargreaves 3rdQuayle with Moore receiving the Ladies Victory Lane award.
The A & J Butcher Bangers welcomed new driver John Garrod to the field. After a good start from Tony Pitt he pulled off on lap 6 with mechanical problems leaving the gap open for Ashley Harrison to take the lead and clinch the victory with Lee Jordan sliding his way through from the back of the grid to take 2ndover Steven Guest, Robert Hooper and Garrod. No real change in race 2 with Pitt again suffering issues allowing Harrison to take a very early lead over Jordan, Guest and Jarrod. Race 3 Harrison lead from flag to flag with Jordan making his way once again from the back and taking advantage of the fact Hooper was having traction issues on lap 1 overtaking him and by lap 5 Jordan was already in 2ndin front of Guest. Pitt started race 4 but was again out by lap 5. A repeat of race 3 was seen in race 4. The Jaks Bar trophies were awarded to 1stHarrison, 2ndJordan 3rdGuest
The meeting closed with the Mid Season Demolition Derby. Production Rod driver Mark Hargreaves turned out in a crowd pleasing DD car in the form of the Ghost Busters car. He was also joined on track by Hooper, Guest, Garrod, Harrison, Pitt, Ryan Edmonds and Nick Collister. The first hard hit came from Hargreaves into the back of Hooper followed by a good battle with Guest and newbie Garrod. Collister soon pulled off with mechanical issues leaving the carnage to continue with cars going in all directions. All cars suffered some hard hits and no one wanted to give up. A big collision between Edmund’s and Hargreaves saw both cars on fire but thankfully both drivers got out immediately and the fire was quickly extinguished by the marshals. It was left with two cars running Guest and Harrison and with Guest having lost drive Harrison soon finished off the meeting with a head on hit and claimed the chequered flag and took the victory along with £200 prize money.
The next meeting is Monday 1stJuly starting at 7.30pm
