The 2021 stock car season got underway on Sunday, the sun was shining and the crowds filled the stadium ready for an action packed afternoon.
The meeting started with a driver’s parade lap where the crowd got their first look at the drivers and cars.
The Window Wizard Junior Rods were first out on track with the novice drivers in action for the first time, to contest the season long Chemical Services sponsored White’s and Yellow’s Championship.
#119 TJ Teare took the early lead showing great pace from the start and taking the chequered flag for the first time, #118 Harry Merryweather celebrated his 10thbirthday a week before the season opener and after 6 days driving experience took second place ahead of #111 Sam Cracknell who also improved with each race.
Race two saw the novices being joined on track with the experienced drivers. TJ Teare again took an early lead showing great pace and skill leading from the drop of the flag taking the honours ahead of #825 Cian Peers, #33 Shane Ellison, #58 Rio Osborne, #11 Kian Staniford, #41 Nicole Astell-Burt, #118 Harry Merryweather, #26 Shannon Moore and #111 Sam Cracknell.
TJ Teare again got off to a flying start in race three with over half a lap lead before Kian Staniford collided with the fence bringing the race to a halt, on the restart with all cars being brought back together TJ held off challenges from Cian Peers who managed to find a way through with two laps to go, Cian claimed the honours ahead of TJ, Shane, Nicole, Rio, Shannon, Harry and Sam.
Race four saw TJ take his third victory of the day followed by Shane, Cian, Rio, Shannon, Nicole and Harry, unfortunately for Sam his race and meeting ended at the half way point picking up some damage on an infield marker tyre.
Finishing what had been a fantastic first race meeting TJ. Teare again took a fine victory in the final race followed by Cian Peers, Nicole Astell-Burt, Rio Osborne, Shannon Moore, Shane Ellison and Harry Merryweather.
The Jaks bar trophies were awarded to 1st. TJ Teare, 2nd. Cian Peers and 3rd. Shane Ellison.
As the highest point scoring driver of the meeting TJ Teare was also awarded the annual Robin Smith future star award.
The production rods were next out on track, new comer #88 Callum Tilley made a great start taking an early lead of race one, #46 Steve Luton raced his way to the front of the pack to take the honours ahead of #358 Mark Hargreaves, Callum Tilley held on to finish 3rdahead of #69 Georgina Moore and ex Banger champion #420 Lee Freestone.
Race two saw Callum Tilley again take the early lead, fast, close racing saw the waved yellow flags brought out after a collision between Steve Luton and Mark Hargreaves. #357 Jamie Turnbull won the restarted race ahead of #29 Lauren Miller, Callum Tilley and Georgina Moore.
Race three saw Callum race to victory his first, in a racing career only a few hours old, ahead of Georgina, Mark, Lauren and Jamie.
Race four saw Mark Hargreaves race his way from the back of the pack to take his first victory of the season ahead of Jamie Turnbull, Callum Tilley, Georgina Moore and Lauren Miller.
The Jaks Bar trophies were awarded to :-
1st. Callum Tilley, 2nd. Mark Hargreaves and 3rd. Georgina Moore.
The A+J Quality Butchers Bangers were last out on the track to entertain the crowds with thrills and spills from the drop of the flag.
#24 Lee Jordan started where he finished last year taking the first victory of the season followed by #171 Ryan Edmunds, #18 Grant Crellin and new comer #259 Martin Faid. #293 Jordan Brown suffered mechanical issues which ended his meeting and #728 Tom Westbrook suffered race damage in a crash ending his meeting early.
Race two saw Lee Jordan take his second victory ahead of Ryan Edmunds, Grant Crellin, #23 Jemma Moore and Martin Faid. #666 Nick Collister’s race ended stuck on a tyre on lap 8.
Race three was again won by Lee Jordan followed by Jemma Moore, Martin Faid and Ryan Edmunds.
Lee made it four from four winning the final race of the day ahead of Grant Crellin, Martin Faid, Jemma Moore and Ryan Edmunds.
