Barbary Coast bar and grill sponsored Monday evenings stock car racing.
The meeting started off in great conditions but towards the end the rain started and the track became wet and greasy, challenging all the driver’s.
The Chemical Services whites and yellows Junior Rod race, were first on track, #11 Kian Staniford made a quick start chased all the way by #118 Harry Merryweather, Kian held on to take the honours closely followed by Harry in second, #111 Sam Cracknell unfortunately retired with mechanical issues.
Following the recent regrading of drivers, racing was fast paced and close throughout the evening in the Window Wizard Junior Rod’s.
Race one saw #33 Shane Ellison make his way to the front of the pack to claim the chequered flag followed closely by #58 Rio Osborne and #825 Cian Peers who crossed the line together and couldn’t be separated, Kian Staniford took fourth from #119 TJ Teare, #41 Nicole Astell-Burt, #118 Harry Merryweather and #26 Shannon Moore.
Race two saw Harry Merryweather make a quick start holding off the chasing pack until the three laps to go board came out, Shane Ellison came through to take first ahead of Cian Peers, Harry Merryweather raced well and claimed third. Rio Osborne took fourth ahead of Kian Staniford, Shannon Moore, TJ Teare and Nicole Astell-Burt.
Race three had to be restarted after a second lap crash which left Rio Osborne out of the race, Harry Merryweather again led the race until the closing stages where Shane Ellison came through to take the hat-trick ahead of Cian Peers, TJ Teare, Nicole Astell-Burt, Harry Merryweather, Kian Staniford and Shannon Moore.
The Barbary Coast trophies were awarded to 1st Shane Ellison, 2nd Cian Peers and 3rd Rio Osborne. Kian Staniford won the trophy for the whites and yellow top race.
The Mike’s Motors sponsored Production Rods were next out and with ten cars lined up for race one the racing was set to entertaining. #420 Lee Freestone quickly made his way to the front to claim the honours closely followed by #46 Steve Luton, #358 Mark Hargreaves took third followed by #34 Jamie Dale, #357 Jamie Turnbull, #777 Martin Freestone, #65 Danny Glennerster, #538 Ian Kneale and #88 Callum Tilley, newcomer #327 Vinnie Magee did not finish the race.
Race two again saw plenty of close racing, the race had to be stopped on lap five after Jamie Dale hit the fence ending her evening. Lee Freestone came out on top again closely followed by Steve Luton, Mark Hargreaves again took third ahead of Jamie Turnbull, Ian Kneale, Vinnie Magee, Danny Glennerster and Callum Tilley.
Race three saw Steve Luton get the better start closely followed by Lee Freestone, the racing again had to be stopped to remove Vinnie Magee’s car from the track after mechanical issues ended his race. Steve Luton went on to win the restarted race from Lee Freestone, Mark Hargreaves, Ian Kneale, Jamie Turnbull, Callum Tilley and Danny Glennerster.
Race four saw Steve Luton again get the better of Lee Freestone taking his second victory of the evening ahead of Lee, Mark Hargreaves, Ian Kneale, Jamie Turnbull and Callum Tilley.
The Barbary Coast trophies were awarded to 1st Steve Luton, 2nd Lee Freestone and 3rd Mark Hargreaves.
The A&J Butchers Bangers were next out on track, with thrills and spills aplenty race one saw eight cars start the race before carnage on lap one halved the pack, #240 Lewis Keightley’s evening was ended after spinning in to the fence on the last corner on lap one, lap two saw the end of #171 Ryan Edmunds. #666 Nick Collister and, #259 Martin Faid’s race. #23 Jemma Moore claimed the honours ahead of #18 Grant Crellin, #77 Robert Hooper and #24 Lee Jordan who limped his way around the track following damage picked up in the earlier crash.
Race two saw more opening lap action, Lee Jordan claimed the honours followed by Martin Faid, #179 Jordan Halligan-Bunce, Grant Crellin, Robert Hooper and Jemma Moore.
Race three saw Lee Jordan comfortably cruise his way to victory with Jemma Moore taking second holding off Martin Faid, Robert Hooper and Grant Crellin.
The Barbary Coast trophies were awarded to 1st Lee Jordan, 2nd Jemma Moore and 3rd Grant Crellin.
Racing resumes Bank Holiday Monday 31stMay with the action getting underway at 7:30pm.
